Vice Principal - September

We are looking for a dynamic, enthusiastic Vice Principal to assist in the strategic and operational management at Frewen College.

Frewen specialises in supporting young people aged from 7 to 19 whose education has been adversely affected by Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLD) such as dyslexia, dyspraxia, dyscalculia, and Speech, Language and Communication needs. Our students, currently numbering 139, study a typical curriculum with small classes and dyslexia-trained staff supporting them to make accelerated progress and exceed CAT projections. At Sixth Form, we partner with Bexhill College to provide a range of qualifications which lead to further or higher education, apprenticeships or employment.   Over a third of our students board and we provide a full evening and weekend activity programme.

The school has a national reputation for dyslexia expertise, offering advice to professionals and parents. The school was originally founded in 1910, making it the oldest dyslexia school in the country, if not the world, and was Winner of the ISA Award for Outstanding Provision for Learning Support and Finalist for Senior School of the Year, 2021.

Set in 60 acres of grounds, we are privileged to be housed in historic buildings and excited to be embarking on a new-build facility which will incorporate a state-of-the-art Performing Arts Centre, Drama and Music teaching areas, a Sixth Form centre and a dedicated Therapy suite.

The role of Vice Principal is pivotal to the school and is instrumental in:

  • Achieving best practice in teaching and assessment
  • Ensuring staff competence and confidence in teaching pupils with SEND
  • Supporting parents in their application for EHC plans
  • Acting as Designated Safeguarding Lead

Full details of the role can be found in our job description.

You will be a senior leader in your current school, ready for the next step in your career or seeking to broaden your skills and knowledge.  With responsibility for safeguarding, either as a DSL or DDSL, you will also have had experience of SEND, either in a specialist school or in a mainstream setting.  As you will be leading the success of teaching and learning, you will need to have taught in at least two of KS2, KS3 or KS4.  Equally importantly, you will have a quiet assurance to inspire confidence from students, staff and parents.
